The Importance of Cleaning Your School

A school plays a humongous role in a student's life. Not only is school an important place for a person to get their education — which is central to their outlook, values, and so much more — but it is crucial in the development of social and problem-solving skills. We owe it to them to make sure students have a pleasant experience in their schools, and that includes cleaning our schools. A clean school isn’t only for show; it can affect a person’s whole worldview!

A dirty school is a health hazard. Dirt and grime allow germs to be produced. Those germs can lead to the spread of communicable diseases. This assuredly poses a threat to the students and staff of a school, but it also threatens public health. Students and staff will go out into the world, and the germs will silently tag along. Also, a 2015 survey found that 50 percent of parents send their children back to school sick, knowing that the germs will be easily spreadable in the enclosed area. Next thing you know, lots of people have communicable diseases, which could have all been avoided by cleaning.

There are not as many germs in a clean school environment to disrupt the students or staff. Neither group will have to be absent as much, which is a fiscal reason for clean schools, but also they won’t have to deal with symptoms from the germs. They have more time to focus on education.

Cleanliness in schools speeds up learning in more than one way. The germs take away from the learning experience, but so does dinginess and clutter. A 2018 survey by Clorox found that 59 percent of parents their kids study better in a clean area. Other students have reportedly found it easier to focus and learn in a clean space.

There’s something about being in a dingy environment that just brings you down. People feel more anxious and less comfortable in a dirty space — in other words, people associate dirtiness with negative feelings. If students and staff see that their school is consistently clean, they have more time to explore their positive feelings.

Cleanliness is one of the simplest ways to show you care. It shows that you take pride in your space, and that pride is infectious. If you are proud of something, and you want to reflect pride in something, you don’t neglect it. A student will see a clean school as something to be proud of, and will feel protected.

Schools are so important for students and staff directly, but also for parents, guardians, and the rest of the community. On average, Americans spend about 15 percent of their lives in schools.
