Getting Your Space Ready for Halloween

Getting Your Space Ready for Halloween

It’s Halloween season, which means it’s time to break out the decorations!

All you’re trying to do is have some good ol’ Halloween fun, but as festive as décor can make you feel, you have to get there first; someone has to decorate for you to be able to revel in the décor, and most likely, that person is you. With these tips for decluttering and organizing your Halloween decorations, you’ll be able to do this daunting task with ease!

Keep Your Halloween Decorations All Together

First things first, make sure you know where your decorations are. This seems simple enough, but often we will (for whatever reason) leave our decorations just anywhere in our space and lose them — or lose our minds looking for them.

To make locating your decorations less stressful for you, leave them in a storage box in an area specifically for them. Make sure the box is waterproof if you leave the decorations in a garage or a shed, because the moisture from inclement weather may be enough to damage cardboard boxes.

Limit Your Intake

You get Halloween decorations because you think they’re cute or spooky or something. However, the way you feel about their aesthetics can change on a whim. That means you’ll have a bunch of decorations you don’t like, and you won’t know what to do with them.
It’s time to set some boundaries! Depending on the size of your space (and how into Halloween décor you are), make space for 1 or 2 boxes for your Halloween decorations. Space limitations will force you to reconsider buying so many decorations.

Be Picky

You may decorate for Halloween and find that your decorations don’t fit in your vision after all, or maybe they’re just not as cute as you thought when you got them. You put them in storage for the next Halloween season, but it’s just going to be the same rigmarole.

Now’s not the time for that; you don’t have space or time for decorations you’ll never use.

Only keep the decorations you want/need for the coming Halloween seasons. Make a quick decision about what you’re going to keep, or else you risk overthinking yourself out of decision-making. You can get a decoration you want for next Halloween season when you need it, but decluttering your decorations will help you organize them.

Give Another One of Your Senses Some Love

Your goal is to set the entire mood for Halloween; for you to organize and prepare for Halloween, pay attention to more than just how your décor looks. You’ll need a fresh scent that reminds you of Halloween.

The aroma of pumpkin spice always reminds me of Halloween. A cup of pumpkin spice tea is nice around this time, but keeping a pot brewing on your stove for a month is a fire hazard. Luckily, there are other ways to have your space smelling like pumpkin spice: scented oils, candles, and incense.

We at Andy’s Quality Cleaning use scented oil; it’s not a hassle to deal with, and you don’t have to keep changing it to imagine yourself with a cup of pumpkin spice tea any time of the day.

Don’t Forget About the Fireplace

Often, people will avoid decorating the fireplace. Things are flammable and we don’t want to set our space or ourselves on fire for festivity’s sake, so we shouldn’t put anything in front of a fireplace.

However, you can cut down on the possibility of a widespread fire by cleaning your fireplace. Dust it all; dust makes things more flammable, so you don’t want it around. You should clean the inside of your fireplace/chimney every year. You’ll be using your fireplace most often in the fall and winter, so now is a good time to do so.

A substance called creosote builds up in your chimney every time you use the fireplace. Creosote build-up causes wild chimney/fireplace fires. To cut down on the build-up, use dried firewood. You should let a professional check for creosote build-up and clean your chimney and fireplace.
