Clean Your Floors - For Your Health & Your Wealth

It’s not surprising that many of our clients ask us to focus a lot of our time on floor maintenance. People spend roughly 39 percent of custodial work time on floor care. Do you wonder why that is? Like, why would people spend so much time cleaning, of all things, floors? Floors may not seem like a big to-do, and you may find it easy to slack up on that task a little. You really shouldn’t do that; by themselves, floors are not the most important things in spaces, by they certainly set the tone for the rest of your space. They are vital, and keeping them clean is much more worthwhile than you would think.

Looks aren’t everything, I know, but aesthetics are important for floor maintenance — but not only for surface reasons. People associate cleanliness with how you value them. If they see that your space is dirty, they won’t want to come into it. That is devastating for any space, but it can be financially detrimental to business. In fact, 9 out of 10 people in a 2017 survey will have an entirely negative opinion of a space if it doesn’t have clean public areas, and 92 percent will not become repeat customers because of that opinion. Another survey asked, what is the first thing people look at when considering a space’s cleanliness? The most popular answer to this question was ‘floors’.

It may be imperceptible to us, but we are always tracking some amount of dirt on floors. And that dirt accumulates. A thousand people bring in up to 24 pounds of dirt in a 20-day period. Dirt is even harder to see in some kinds of carpet, but a square yard of commercial carpet can gather up to a pound of dirt in a week, and twice that in inclement weather! The street dirt that people track into a space is a major source of indoor air pollutants, which cause allergies and other illnesses. Regular floor cleanings will prevent the spread of illness.

Dirt wears down floors. An accumulation of dirt causes your floor to have abrasions, which means you will have to keep fixing or repairing them. That can get expensive. Cleaning it regularly will lessen the chances of your floor being worn down.

Cleaning floors is a daunting process. The things that work to clean one type of floor don’t always work for another type of floor (for example, soap and water can clean tile flooring, but actually warps and splinters hardwood flooring). Andy’s Quality Cleaning recommends Pine-Sol to clean your floors. It’s a multi-surface cleaner. It is not too harsh, but it gets rid of many germs (like the germ that causes COVID-19). The shine on your floor after cleaning is brilliant, and the scent doesn’t last too long after cleaning. The shine stays for a while; we’ve come back to clean our clients’ floors after cleaning them some time before, and the floors were still shining. Pine-Sol even brings hardwood floors back to life over time!

If you want to take a more natural, homemade approach to cleaning your floors, regular white vinegar is a great tool to have. It’s also an efficient multi-surface cleaner. All you have to do is dilute it, it’s about 18 ounces of vinegar to 1 gallon of water to clean a 2,000 square foot floor. You can play with the ratio to suit your needs.

You can use all the best cleaning solutions in the world to clean your floor, but that means nothing if you don’t have a good mop. We recommend Bona Mops. They’re cost-effective and they work well. The Bona mop comes with attachable, reusable pads for different floors. They come with a solution in a spray bottle, but the vinegar solution or Pine-Sol work just as well. If you can’t remove every spot or stain with your mop, a Magic Eraser will do the trick with no harsh chemicals.

We know cleaning your floors isn’t always easy, especially when you have a lot of them. Get in touch with us today, and we’ll keep your floors shining and spotless!
